Poison-focused monster with attacks influenced by what it eats.
Locations: Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste
Respect the tail and poison attacks. Carry Antidotes or Herbal Medicine when learning the matchup.

A mud-dwelling monster of the Wildspire Waste.
Location: Wildspire Waste
Mud changes its behavior and defenses. Watch for charges and mud projectiles.

Extremely mobile and comfortable in the trees.
Location: Ancient Forest
Keep your camera on it and avoid chasing blindly. Punish the end of its long movement rather than attacking while it is moving.

Aggressive fire-using brute wyvern.
Location: Ancient Forest
Its head and nose attacks are dangerous. Stay patient and learn when it finishes a charge or roar sequence.

Location: Ancient Forest
Its aerial attacks are the main problem. Learn when it is vulnerable after landing and use appropriate anti-air tools.
Diablos
A burrowing monster with extremely dangerous charges.

The signature Iceborne ice Elder Dragon.
Location: Hoarfrost Reach / related quests
Ice walls and breath attacks control space. Learn where the safe gaps are rather than constantly running away.

Location: Coral Highlands
Wet ground can change how dangerous its thunder attacks become. Watch the arena, not only the monster.
Shara Ishvalda
A major Iceborne story Elder Dragon with multiple phases.
Location: Story finale
Its first phase emphasizes rock and sonic attacks. Later phases demand stronger awareness of area-wide attacks.

Weapon Academy
All 14 weapon classes. These are principles and practical rotations, not button-by-button combo lists.
Great Sword
Slow, powerful and built around reading monster openings.
Position → draw attack / tackle → charge → True Charged Slash during a reliable opening.
Key lesson: Do not chase the monster with your strongest attack. Make the monster come into your prepared position.
Long Sword
Mobile weapon with Spirit Gauge and counter-focused gameplay.
Build Spirit Gauge → use Foresight Slash against a read → reach a higher gauge level → Helm Breaker during a good opening.
Key lesson: Learn monster timing instead of throwing counters randomly.
Sword & Shield
Extremely flexible weapon with fast attacks and item access.
Short attacks → reposition → Perfect Rush during a clear opening → return to neutral.
Key lesson: Your small commitment lets you punish many openings other weapons cannot.
Dual Blades
Fast attacks, Demon Mode and heavy stamina management.
Demon Mode → build Demon Gauge → attack → Demon Dance during long openings → reposition before stamina becomes a problem.
Key lesson: Do not spend your entire stamina bar just because you can.
Hammer
Blunt damage, KO pressure and excellent head control.
Charge → reposition around the head → release the appropriate charge attack → Big Bang during knockdowns.
Key lesson: Your best damage often begins with simply being in the right place near the head.
Hunting Horn
Buffs and attacks are combined into one weapon.
Prepare songs → Self Improvement → attack → perform/refresh songs during safe openings.
Key lesson: Do not stand far away playing songs. Your buffs are part of your combat loop.
Lance
Constant pressure through guard, counters and precise positioning.
Guard / Counter Thrust → poke chain → reposition → counter again.
Key lesson: Blocking is not the end of your turn. Use defense to stay close and keep attacking.
Gunlance
Combines lance defense with explosive shelling.
Choose shell type → poke/shell or burst loop → manage sharpness → use Wyvernstake/Wyvernfire during suitable openings.
Key lesson: Shelling type changes the ideal rotation. Build and play around your chosen shelling style.
Switch Axe
Two modes connected by powerful morph attacks.
Axe mode for positioning → build resources → Sword mode for damage → Zero Sum Discharge when the opening is safe.
Key lesson: Know when to leave sword mode instead of getting trapped in a long animation.
Charge Blade
Complex weapon built around phials, shield charge and explosive attacks.
Build phials → charge shield → build/use sword charge if desired → AED/SAED during reliable openings.
Key lesson: Resource management comes before the flashy finisher.
Insect Glaive
Kinsect extracts, aerial movement and fast ground attacks.
Collect Red/White extracts → maintain buffs → ground attacks → vault for repositioning or mounting opportunities.
Key lesson: Aerial attacks are useful, but your ground moves generally provide more reliable damage.
Light Bowgun
Mobile ranged weapon with flexible ammo and status options.
Choose ammo → maintain ideal distance → fire → reposition → reload during a safe moment.
Key lesson: Ammo management and positioning are part of your damage rotation.
Heavy Bowgun
High ranged damage with stronger commitment and defensive options.
Establish firing position → fire optimal ammo → reload safely → exploit special ammo or openings.
Key lesson: A perfect firing position can matter more than another damage skill.
Bow
Stamina-based ranged weapon built around maintaining charge and ideal distance.
Charge → shots → Power Shot where appropriate → Charging Step → maintain charge and stamina → repeat.
Key lesson: Stamina is your real resource. Never spend it all without a plan.

Game Systems
The mechanics behind combat and progression.
Affinity
Affinity is your chance to land a critical hit. Negative affinity means a chance for a weaker hit. Critical Boost increases the damage of positive critical hits.
Sharpness
Melee weapons have sharpness tiers. Higher sharpness generally improves damage and reduces bouncing. Sharpen during safe openings.
Hitzones
Every monster part can have different raw and elemental effectiveness. Learn where your weapon should actually attack.
Element
Fire, Water, Thunder, Ice and Dragon damage interact with monster elemental hitzones. Fast weapons can often take strong advantage of element.
Status
Poison, Paralysis, Sleep and Blast provide different forms of utility. Status buildup is accumulated until a threshold is reached.
Part Breaks
Repeated damage to a specific part can break it. Part breaks can change attacks and reward tables and are important for farming.
Stagger & Trips
Enough damage to certain areas can cause flinches or trips. These openings are valuable for committing to long attacks.
Capturing
Weaken an eligible monster, place a trap, then use Tranq Bombs. Capturing can finish a hunt without killing the monster.
Investigations
Investigations are useful for targeted farming. Choose the investigation whose reward conditions match your goal.
Decorations
Decorations provide skills. Save useful decorations and build around the skills your weapon and matchup actually need.
Mantles
Mantles provide temporary effects. Learn their purpose and recharge timing instead of activating them immediately every hunt.
Food
Eat before hunting. Food skills and the health/stamina provided by meals are part of basic preparation.
Important Items
Keep your item pouch practical. You do not need every item on every hunt.
Mega Potion
HealingBasic reliable healing. Keep plenty available.
Max Potion
EmergencyExcellent when you need a fast full heal.
Ancient Potion
EmergencyRestores health and stamina to maximum.
Antidote
StatusRemoves poison. Replace with Herbal Medicine when faster recovery is important.

BuffAttack preparation item for hunters who want an additional offensive buff.
Armor Skin
BuffDefensive preparation buff.
Large Barrel Bomb

Botanical Research
Keep useful materials growing. Honey is especially convenient because it supports your Mega Potion supply.
Mining
Learn a fixed route between mining outcrops. A repeatable route is faster than randomly searching the map.
Bonepiles
Gather bone materials while traveling between objectives. Add dedicated bonepile routes when crafting demands them.
Plants & Mushrooms
Use the Botanical Research Center for frequently consumed resources whenever possible.
Bug Farming
Flashbugs and Thunderbugs are useful utility materials. Gather them when passing through their common locations.
Fishing
Fishing is mostly a targeted activity. Decide which fish or material you need before spending time on it.
Monster Farming
Use investigations when they provide better farming conditions. Break the part that produces the material you need.
Farming Rule
Write down the exact material and quantity you need. Stop gathering once the project is complete.
Hunting Guide
The most important skill in Monster Hunter is understanding why you got hit.
1. Prepare
- Eat at the canteen.
- Check armor and weapon.
- Restock healing.
- Bring matchup-specific items.
- Check ammo/coatings if applicable.
2. Observe
Do not immediately attack. Watch the monster perform an attack and notice how long it takes to recover.
3. Position
Stand where the monster's attacks miss and where your weapon reaches a valuable hitzone.
4. Punish
Use your longest and strongest attacks during reliable openings: recoveries, knockdowns, trips, wall slams and other controlled situations.
5. Heal Safely
Do not heal simply because your health is not full. Create distance or use a known opening before committing to the healing animation.
6. Sharpen Safely
Sharpness is important, but sharpening in front of an attacking monster is often worse than fighting briefly at lower sharpness.
7. Capture or Kill?
Capture when you want a fast finish and the monster is eligible. Kill when the quest or your objective requires it.
8. Learn From Faints
Ask: Was I greedy? Poorly positioned? Out of stamina? Did I miss an attack tell? Fix one problem at a time.
Iceborne Knowledge
Master Rank changes the pace of the game and adds several major systems.
Master Rank
Master Rank monsters are tougher, hit harder and punish old habits. Upgrade your armor and weapon rather than trying to survive entirely with outdated High Rank equipment.
Clutch Claw
The Clutch Claw lets you grapple to monster parts. Learn when you can safely use it and avoid turning every opening into a grapple animation.
Tenderizing
Tenderized parts become more favorable targets for physical damage. Plan your tenderizing around the monster's behavior and your weapon's ability to maintain it.
Wall Slams
When the monster is in an appropriate state, directing it into a wall can create a powerful opening and useful damage.
Enraged Monsters
Enraged monsters are more aggressive, but Iceborne mechanics can reward hunters who deliberately exploit enrage windows.
Guiding Lands
Choose your target region and material goal before leveling randomly. Planning saves a huge amount of farming time.
Augments
Endgame weapons can be customized through augmentation. Decide whether your build needs healing, affinity, attack, slots or other available improvements.
Safi'jiiva
Safi is a coordinated siege. Teams should communicate part priorities and understand how energy-draining mechanics affect the encounter.
Alatreon
Elemental preparation is essential. The fight heavily rewards hunters who understand its elemental states and Escaton Judgment mechanic.
Fatalis
Fatalis is a major endgame skill check. Learn the arena, siege weapons, safe positions and major attack timings before focusing entirely on speed.
Quick Hunter Checklist
- Eat before every serious hunt.
- Upgrade your weapon whenever the progression allows.
